A great way to get back to nature, National Trust nature reserve Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire is the perfect place for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Offering different trails depending on your stamina and how long you want to be out for, having a wander around an watching the wildlife is a lovely way to spend the day.
We went alone the Nature Trail, watching out for dragonflies and climbing the watch towers to enjoy the beautiful views. However, not everyone likes simply wandering the countryside, and taking in the views and fresh air – my boyfriend was a little bit unimpressed as nature isn’t his thing – so for those who want to be a bit more active or do something a bit more interesting, you can also take a guided boat trip down the river. You can even hire bike and discover Wicken Fen and the surrounding area via the cycle routes, with one of the suggested trails leading you to another National Trust property called Anglesey Abbey (also a lovely day out).
While not as obviously fascinating as other National Trust venues, Wicken Fen still has lots of offer, and is a lovely place to spend a lazy or active day in the sun depending on your preference.
